Rae Sremmurd - Sremmlife (Album Review)
Release Date : January 6, 2015
Label : EarDrummers / Interscope Records
Rae Sremmurd (Eardrummers backwards) are setting things by releasing the first Hip-Hop album of the year, Sremmlife. Swae Lee and Slim Jimmy popped up out of nowhere with their instant hit "No Flex Zone". To be honest I wasn't even a fan of that song at first, until I heard the remix with Pusha T and Nicki, which was dope. I thought Rae Sremmurd were teenagers, but they're actually in their early 20s. Its crazy how they have two hits already. Not only can they make catchy songs, they also have one of the hottest producers in the game right now, Mike Will Made It supplying them with dope production. One thing about Rae Sremmurd is that they can easily make club bangers. And Sremmlife is full of them.
Besides "No Flex Zone" and "No Type", theres the strip club anthems "Come Get Her" and "Throw Some Mo" featuring Nicki and Young Thug", produced by Soundz. That song was perfect for Nicki to drop a verse on, but her hook gets the job done. The Sonny Digital produced "Up Like Trump" , which is a "we winning like Donald Trump" song. Check out "YNO" featuring Big Sean and "Lit Like Bic (Intro)" as well. These dudes got club bangers on deck. Some people might not like Rae Sremmurds style over substance approach, but thats what works for them.
At the end of the day they just wanna party, have fun, etc...can't be mad at that. The songs I weren't feeling were "My X", "Safe Sex Pay Checks" and "Unlock the Swag". The latter is extremely fuckin corny. Unlock my swag. Really? Overall, if you like whats being played on the radio then you'll enjoy Sremmlife. If you don't like what gets played on the radio then don't even waste your time with this album. This album isn't really for me, but I see the appeal. Im gonna go with a 3.5 star rating.
