Rich Gang - Rich Gang (Album Review)

Release Date : July 23, 2013
Label : Young Money / Cash Money / Republic Records

This is the first album from Rich Gang, which consists of Young Money and Cash Money. With limited features from the "stars" of the label, will the newer artists step up to the plate? Nicki and Wayne are featured on one song a piece and Drake isn't on any of them. Birdman says the reason he isn't on the album is because he's working on his new album plus he says Drake is on some new tracks that's being saved for the upcoming Big Tymers album. But anyway, the album starts with R.G., Birdman speaks on the intro, while the "Man Right Chea" Mystkal drops a energetic verse and you already know he's gonna bring the energy whenever he gets on the mic. Future and Detail  link up on piano driven Million Dollar, which is basically a short song leading into the first single Tapout. You've heard the song by now, you know how it goes "She got that million dollar ooh ooh ooh!".

MMG leader Rick Ross has a solo joint, 50 Plates. Can anyone predict the outcome of this song? Trap beat, chanty hook, yup its the same formula Rozay has been using since his hit single BMF. Ok I admit I do enjoy the song though Lol. Its that workout music. Panties To The Side featuring French Montana, Tyga, Bow Wow & Gudda Gudda is for the strip clubs, can't be mad at the song. I can't see it getting played on radio or anything, but in the clubs it definitely can. 100 Favors is enjoyable, Kendrick Lamar easily steals the show with his quick story about a girl.  R Kelly appears on We Been On, so when did him and Birdman squash that beef they had? Remember they were supposed to put the Best Of Both Worlds 2 album in 03, then Kellz ditched him to record the sequel with Jay? Am I the only noticed Kelly sang the hook similar to how J Cole did on Power Trip?

Dreams Come True  featuring Yo Gotti, Ace Hood, Mack Maine & Birdman and Bigger Than Life featuring Chris Brown, Tyga, Birdman & Lil Wayne are the strong points of the album. Birdman is a very smart businessman, he knew exactly what he was doing by inserting himself into the "Pop" oriented Sunshine, which  features Limp Bizkit, Flo-Rida, Birdman & Caskey. This is my first time hearing of Caskey, but he is signed to the label.  The song has a positive vibe to it. They might as well push it as a single. Everyday featuring Cory Gunz, Birdman, Mystikal & Busta Rhymes is your typical Cash Money track and a very forgettable one at that. No need to waste your hard earned money on this one. After listening to this, I must say this comp will not advance any of their careers, Cash Money was better off releasing it as free mixtape instead.

The "Number 1 Stunna" is on damn near every song. How about letting someone else shine? It should be called Birdman & Friends, because that's the type of feel I got from it. Some other things I wanna touch on, in my opinion Jae Millz and Cory Gunz have been  disappointments since signing to Young Money, they were supposed to be apart of the "New New York" around that 2004/2005 era with Papoose, Saigon, Joell Ortiz, Stack Bundles (Rip), Etc. They need to find an identity. As far as Detail goes, it seems like he has been studying Future's formula, relying on the sing songy auto-tune flow, but he made the most out of the opportunity he was given. Overall, Rich Gang is very average, nothing more nothing less.

3/5
