Styles P - Float (Album Review)

Release Date : April 16, 2013
Label : Nature Sounds/High Times Records

Styles P just keeps on cranking out albums and mixtapes, doesn't he? His last album The World's Most Hardest MC Project was only out for about five months before Float. He also released The Diamond Life project mixtape and a collaborative mixtape #The1st28 with Curren$y in 2012, which consisted of all new music. If you're a big Styles P fan like I am, then you already know he puts out side projects like these all the time (The Green Ghost Project, The Ghost Dub-Dime), to keep his name buzzing.

On the intro Float, Ghost gives you those hard bars you would expect, he spits S P The Ghost and Scram Jones/ You don’t want your brains on your man’s foams/ You don’t want my niggas in your fam’s home/ You won’t see shit like you caught up in a sandstorm. Manson Murder features a rejuvenated  N.O.R.E. and a few audio samples from Manson himself. Styles mocks wack rappers ( If I rap like you I put the toast to myself), while N.O.R.E. has some funny lines (My favorite sex position is the 69/ I fuck her at 6 while holding my 9).

Sheek Louch, the energetic member of the Lox appears on Hater Love. They get love from the haters over Scram Jones funky gangsta beat. What would a Styles P album be without a weed anthem? He has one every album. Although I Need Weed doesn't compare to Good Times (I Get High) or Blow Ya Mind, its still a good track, he proclaims hes a NY nigga with West Coast lungs. Reckless featuring Raekwon goes hard too. Whenever The Lox and Wu collab the song always turns out dope.

Styles P is lyrically on point as always, however some of his verses come off as mixtape material. Float is completely produced by Scram Jones and his production gets very redundant after a while. Most of the hooks are sample based, for instance Bodies In The Basement and Red Eye featuring Jadakiss have those samples in them. Float is basically just something to hold the fans over til his next album. Hopefully next go round, Styles P takes his time instead of just rushing music when there's no need to.

3.5/5
