50 Cent - Animal Ambition (Album Review)

Release Date : June 3, 2014
Label : G-Unit/Caroline/Capitol

50 hasn't released an album since 2009. Five years is a long time in the music business. During that time 50 had a lot of label drama, but he kept busy by doing movies and releasing mixtapes. On Animal Ambition, 50 is doing what he does best, and thats making street music. He definitely sounds more hungrier this time around than he did on BISD. Let's be honest here, Curtis and BISD we barely average albums. Very few gems were on those albums. But on Animal Ambition, Fif sounds more hungrier now than he did in the last few years. If you want that classic 50 feel, look no further than "Hold On", "Pilot" and "Hustler". Animal Ambition is filled with hard joints.

"Irregular Heartbeat" featuring Jadakiss and Kidd Kidd, produced by "G Rocka & Medi" is basically about cowards, the hook describes the song perfectly (Nigga, you pussy, you scared I can hear your heartbeat.....You know a dog sense fear/ I can hear your heartbeat). "Chase the Paper" produced by "Ty Fyffe" is another dope where 50, Kidd Kidd, Styles P and Prodigy talk about dudes who would rather chase hoes instead of chasing money. Animal Ambition has a few laid back songs on here as well like "Twisted" featuring Mr. Probz And "Winners Circle" featuring Guordan Banks.

A few things I didn't like about this album was some of the production. "Don't Worry 'Bout It" and "Smoke" sound very dated. Trey said he did "Smoke" about 3-4 years with Dr. Dre and Charli Brown Beatz said that he sent the "Don't Worry 'Bout It" beat to 50 in 2009. Maybe some of these songs were throwaways or something. At the end of the day, Fif is just getting back in the game and let's not forget Street King Immortal will be released later this year. I think he will be more focused on there and have better production as well. But in the meantime, I would suggest checking this album out.

3.5/5
